Side-quests feel like a kick in the posterior, made to waste your time. The map design feels like some proof-of-concept or a tech demo, rather than a proper game. Exploration per-se feels depressing: there are very few secrets at all, even less actually worth finding - clearing bandit camps will prove of little use without a quest associated to them, as their "reward crates" (which also contain a save point every time) will give you the same couple weapons you already have, or organ variations that are not worth using. There'll be three main zones to explore, each of them will have the same general layout: a desolate stretch of land with the occasional debris, tree or rock outcropping, with bandit or anyway hostile camps placed around, and a neutral central city where most NPCs and quest-givers are located. Terminals and files may also tell you more about past events, however don't expect gripping story or lore at any point. The writing proves generic: it's largely inspired to sci-fi and post-apocalyptic tropes that will feel already-seen for those into the genre, despite some of 'em standing out as amusing or bizarre. The NPC dialogues are generally brief, and have a couple options that may shed more light on the lore, or reveal side quests. WF's intriguing setting and some good gameplay ideas are not enough to surpass, or just balance out, its issues. Horde survival mode is however available for those interested. The content is linear, replay value is nonexistent. The effective content, after clearing all secondary quests I could find on Hard (lowered to Normal for a specific boss, though, I'll admit) difficulty is around 2.5 hours, provided you have no crashes. Uncommon issues regarding the world's state when loading a saved game.ĭespite 4 hours counted, at least 1.5 hours were backtracking due to crashes. Several gameplay mechanics feel half-baked or poorly implemented. Poor weapon types balancing, makes effective combat approaches limited in number. Most quests are a boring waste of time, with miserable rewards and dull tasks. Horrendous boss fights that suffer from major design issues.
